Derrick Brown Question & Answer

Have you always been “artistic”? What led you to photography?

I've always loved art. I never could draw well, so I'm glad I found photography to express my self.

You make a point to express; simplicity can create beautiful and “great” imagery. When everything is said and done… how far do you want to have traveled from where you began? Do you want to become that super digital, multi-component, extravagant and exclusive photographer? Or do you always want to remain wide-open, accessible, and somewhat elementary?

Of course digital is the wave of the future. I've been into film for a while. Honestly I never grew the way I wanted to with film because it's so expensive. Once I discovered digital [photography], it allowed me to experiment with out wasting my film. That's how I developed my style.

At this point in the evolution of your photographic/artistic “journey”, between creating your art and marketing it: where do your priorities lie? And why?

My priorities are to do everything I can to grow and become a better photographer. I am far from where I want to be. I'm still hungry and I don't want to lose that hunger. I feel that if I keep growing as a photographer, then all of the success will fall into place.

I am assuming, there are women you photograph that do not have aspirations of becoming the next great super model but are just as beautiful, if not more… Have you ever tried to convince someone to make a career change and explore the world of fulltime modeling?

I do it quite a bit. I feel if someone has what it takes, I'm going to let them know.

When it comes to taking pictures of “barely dressed” women, is there ever someone on the sidelines making things difficult: mother, father, husband, boy friend, or girl friend?

I never had any problems. Just to let you know, I never impose on anyone to do half nude images. People usually notice them on my site and realize that they are very tasteful.

Last but not least, we always ask; Where do you find the most beautiful women; State and city please… our readers would like to know where they can find the type of women you photograph?

Wow! I honestly can't pinpoint any place. I reside in Austin, Texas and there are a lot of beautiful women here, in the whole state of Texas, there are gorgeous women everywhere.
